T HE SCOOP: “E! NEWS LIVE”/“Fashion Police” host/reality star Giuliana DePandi Rancic, who is also the loving wife of the handsome Bill Rancic, is the cover story for the Jan./Feb. issue of Michigan Avenue magazine on stands Thursday. In an intimate interview with the mag’s Susanna Negovan, she talks about her battle with breast cancer, which led up to her having a double mastectomy in December. Rancic’s cancer was discovered while having ongoing IVF treatments in the couple’s quest to conceive, which has been the story line for much of their hit “Giuliana & Bill” reality show on the Style Network. Giuliana, who is looking just gorgeous, shot the magazine cover the night before her double mastectomy.

Rancic reveals that she sees her diagnosis as being a blessing: “People come up and they have sadness in their eyes, and I think, at a time when everyone’s looking at me with pity, I look at myself as lucky. I think I just dodged the biggest bullet of my life,” she says. “Maybe in some way I’m a little bit of a messenger. Maybe God knew that I have a big mouth, that I’m a loud Italian chick, that I wouldn’t hide anything. It now starts to make sense to me why I think I got the cool job, because I think he knew I would do some cool stuff with it,” Rancic said.

The reality show kicks off its fifth season April 2, and her journey battling breast cancer will be a huge focus of the show.

She also wants to bring some joy and happiness to other women battling breast cancer “so these women can enjoy the things I get to enjoy. Everything from ‘I’ve never owned a pair of Louboutins’ to ‘I’ve never met Ryan Gosling’,” said Rancic. Her hubby came up with the name “Fab-u-wish.”

I spoke to G and Bill by phone on Monday to ask her more about “Fab-u-wish.” “We are partnering with Chicago’s Lindsay Avner, founder of the Bright Pink organization, to grant the first round of wishes,” Giuliana said.
