A KUPTASTIC Toast: My late, great boss, Irv “Kup” Kupcinet, would have turned 100 years old Tuesday. In his honor some of his longtime friends, who used to have a weekly luncheon with him, got together, as they still do, to toast and share fond memories of their dear friend at Gibsons on Saturday. The group included attorney Joe Morris and wife Kathy, attorney Andrew De LaRosa, his PR pals Audri Adams, Howard Mendelsohn, Herb Kraus, Sherman Wolf, Eugene Gallagher and Owen Moriarty.
GOSPEL NEWS: Local gospel choirs can show folks what they are made of in the gospel competition “How Sweet the Sound” coming to Chi-Town Sept. 17 at the United Center. Gospel greats Yolanda Adams and Donald Lawrence will co-host the stellar evening. The judges include more gospel standouts — Erica Campbell of Mary, Mary; Fred Hammond, CeCe Winans and Hezekiah Walker.
If you think your choir is off the chain, go for it! For ticket info: 800-745-3000.
SPEAKING OF singing, you owe it to yourself to hear the magnificent II Volo Aug. 22 at the Chicago Theatre.
ACTOR /Comedian Kevin (“Think Like A Man”) Hart was one of the judges in the recent Miller Time Chicago’s semifinals “Stand Up” competition in Chicago. Local comic Willie Lynch Jr. won and will compete in the Las Vegas finale Aug. 30 for a $10,000 prize. By the way, Hart will bring his “Let Me Explain Tour” Sept. 29 to the United Center.
MADONNA brings her World Tour to the United Center Sept. 19 & 20. Here’s hoping that she will not gross out her crowd with her “flipping her breast out” trick! So tacky for a mother of two! . . . Mary J. Blige, D’Angelo and Melanie Fiona at the United Center Sept. 13! Hot! Hot!
