Farewell fete planned for Israeli consul general

JUST IN: Israel’s Midwest Consul General Orli Gil is saying goodbye to Chicago. Gil returns to Israel late this summer after serving four years in Chi-Town. She will be replaced by Consul General designate Roey Gilad.
Gil’s Deputy Consul General Shahar Arieli also is leaving his post and returning to the homeland after serving two years and will be replaced by Anat Sultan-Dodan. Both officials will be farewell-feted July 10 at a private home.
THE OBAMAS’ Kenwood/Hyde Park neighborhood will be on a major lockdown this weekend, especially Saturday afternoon when there will be additional security checkpoints added at 50th & Woodlawn and 50th and Ellis and around Greenwood street. The president and wife, Michelle, will be in town this weekend for the wedding of White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett’s daughter, attorney Laura Jarrett, and attorney Tony Balkissoon on Saturday. I broke this story about the upcoming marriage in my May 10 column. So stay away! Congrats to the happy couple!
MAYOR RAHM Emanuel took time out from all of his city headaches to call and congratulate Chicago playwright Bruce Norris, whose Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “Clybourne Park,” won a Tony Award for best play on Sunday. He also did the same for its director, Pam MacKinnon.
