TV mayor poll: Emanuel in lead; Chico, a distant second

Rahm Emanuel could win the mayor’s race on the very first round, according to a poll released Tuesday night by ABC-7 Chicago News.
The poll of 600 likely voters taken late last week and over the weekend shows Emanuel way out in front with 54 percent of the vote.
In a distant second place was Gery Chico with 14 percent, while City Clerk Miguel del Valle was third with 8 percent. And in a distant fourth was former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun with 6 percent of the vote.
The poll was taken as controversy swirled over Braun telling another candidate in the race, Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins that Watkins had been high on crack cocaine.
If Emanuel gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the Feb. 22 election, he wins outright with no need for an April 6 run-off election.
Emanuel led with all vote groups, getting 57 percent of the white vote, 53 percent of the black vote and 47 percent of the Hispanic vote. That’s double the share of the Hispanic vote that went to second-place finisher, Miguel del Valle.
Emanuel has been running ads touting his support from former President Bill Clinton and the warm send-off President Obama gave him when he left his job as chief of staff.
