Metra lines experiencing minor delays during morning rush

Updated: January 8, 2014 9:06AM

After a Metra mess Monday and early Tuesday that resulted in dozens of cancellations and massive delays, slightly warmer temperatures were translating into better service for the Wednesday morning rush.

By 8 a.m., the rail service reported few delays for the morning commute.

The BNSF line saw the most issues early Wednesday. Both inbound and outbound trains were experiencing delays up to 20 minutes because of freight train interference, switching problems and inclement weather, according to Metra’s website.

Signal problems caused delays on the Union Pacific Northwest Line, according to Metra’s website.

A few trains were delayed up to 20 minutes on the Milwaukee District West Line and the UP West Line because of switch problems, the agency reports.

Amtrak, meanwhile, still struggled to resume normal service, canceling some Wednesday trains on the Lincoln, Hiawatha, Wolverine, Zehpyr and Saluki lines.
