Updated: February 15, 2012 8:06AM

A 6-month-old South Side girl died this week because she had been scalded by hot water, an autopsy concluded Friday, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Christina Thomas, of the 700 block of West 76th Street, was hospitalized Jan. 2, the same day police received a complaint alleging child abuse, authorities said.

At the time the child was initially hospitalized there was an allegation that she may have been scalded in water, and an investigation was launched, police said.

The infant was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. Thursday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

A Friday autopsy confirmed the infant died of scald burns, and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

No charges had been filed as of Friday evening.
