Cops warn of jury duty scam

The Kendall County sheriff’s office is warning residents about a jury duty scam that tries to get personal information from residents.

Police said they were contacted in October by a resident who had received a jury questionnaire that appeared to be sent by the Kane County Jury Commission.

The questionnaire asked for personal information, including a Social Security number. The resident filled out the questionnaire and mailed it back to an unknown address. The person later became a victim of identity theft and believes the suspect used the fake jury form to get her personal information, police said.

When the victim was shown a real copy of the Kendall County Jury Commission questionnaire, she said the form she filled out was significantly different.

Kendall County Judge Tim McCann said the county would never ask for a Social Security number on a jury questionnaire. Anyone who believes they might have been targeted in the jury questionnaire scam should call the jury commission at (630) 553-4217.
