No charges have been filed but a teenager is being questioned in the deaths of a woman and two men who were fatally shot while inside a car Saturday afternoon after picking up a cake at a renowned South Side bakery.

Police have the identities of the three victims but were not releasing that information as of early Sunday afternoon.

While a motive for their deaths still remained unclear, they were not robbed and the three victims are not family members, police said.

Witnesses picked the 17-year-old Chicago boy out from photos as the person who allegedly shot the three who were all sitting inside a car, police said. No charges have been filed as of 1:30 p.m.

The two men and a woman were shot about 5 p.m. in a lot used by a Church’s Chicken restaurant and A Piece of Cake, in the 8700 block of South King Drive, police said. All three victims are believed to be in their 20s, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police said a vehicle pulled up, at least one person inside opened fire and the motorist drove away.

Authorities said the second man was initially taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where the medical examiner’s office said he was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m.

Results of the autopsies scheduled Sunday were not immediately available.

A bakery worker said the woman had picked up a cake at the shop just before the shooting.

The bakery has been operating in the Chatham neighborhood for 30 years, according to its website.

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley stopped there for a piece of birthday cake emblazoned with his picture last April while making his farewell tour of the city.
