A South Side mom who prosecutors say has confessed to shaking her three-month-old daughter and dropping her head first onto the floor has been charged with murder and ordered held on bail of $1 million.

Starkenya Banks allegedly shook tiny Omaria when she wouldn’t go to sleep Thursday at her home in the 7100 block of South Yates.

She then dropped the baby head first on a tiled floor, assistant Cook County state’s attorney William Hall said.

When Omaria was unresponsive later that afternoon, Banks called an ambulance, but Omaria was declared dead that night at Jackson Park Hospital, Hall said.

Banks confessed to shaking and dropping the baby, Hall added.

She did not speak during a brief hearing Sunday morning, at which Judge Adam Bourgeois set her bail.
