Pregnant woman wounded in Roseland shooting

A 21-year-old woman who is eight months pregnant was wounded in a shooting in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened about 3:45 p.m. on the 11300 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
The woman was riding in a car with her boyfriend and her mother when an unknown offender approached the vehicle and started firing a handgun, Perez said. The woman, who is about eight months pregnant, was struck in the lower right hip area, Perez said.
The boyfriend and her mother apparently were not wounded, according to a police report.
The woman’s boyfriend drove her to Roseland Community Hospital. The woman’s condition was listed as “stable,” while the mother was taken to the hospital to be checked out, though she apparently was not struck by gunfire.
Police did not have any information on the shooter.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
