A Northwest Indiana woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly trashing a hotel room after ingesting hallucinogenic bath salts.
Police said 42-year-old Tammy E. Winter was “rambling about evil spirits” when police responded to a call of a person damaging a room at a hotel just off I-65 on State Road 114 near Rensselaer, Ind., according to a release from Indiana State Police.
Winter, of Demotte, Ind., was sitting on the bed when officers arrived to find the walls of the hotel room damaged, the release said. She told police she need to write on the walls to protect herself from the spirit.
A family member with her told police that Winter is a known abuser of bath salts, which are snorted and can cause hallucinations, according to the release. She was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief for the damage to the walls and became combative and resisted officers during her arrest, police said.
She was taken to Jasper County Hospital for medical clearance before being transferred to the Jasper County Jail, where she allegedly became combative again and needed to be restrained, the release said. Winters was also charged a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement.
Indiana State Police are investigating.
