Drunk crawls along at 5 mph: cops
A Little Village motorist was so drunk from celebrating his divorce police said they were able to stop his slowly driven car by hand.
Ogden District officers stopped the 5 mph “coasting’’ Oldsmobile Alero, pounded on the window and awoke 34-year-old Raul Vega at Cermak Road and Marshall Boulevard early Wednesday morning. Vega’s eyes were closed and head was “cocked back,” according to a police report.
When he woke up, Vega began fumbling with the windshield wipers, authorities said. Vega allegedly told officers he drank 10 to 12 beers because he was celebrating his divorce, the report said.
Vega, of the 2600 block of West 24th St., was charged with felony aggravated DUI, two misdemeanor counts of DUI, and cited for having an expired driver’s license, not wearing a seatbelt, driving left of center and driving too slow.
