One hurt, one charged after campaign workers’ ‘heated’ scuffle
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE
A fight erupted over posted political signs, leaving one campaign worker hospitalized and another charged with battery Tuesday night on the South Side.
Victor M. Page was arrested at 7:15 p.m. and charged with misdemeanor battery, police said.
Page, who is a campaign worker for Ald. Freddrenna M. Lyle (6th), allegedly punched another campaign worker above the left eye during a “heated verbal altercation’’ over posted political signs, according to a police report. The victim suffered slight swelling and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital where he was in good condition.
Page fled the scene and went to the 75th Street address, the office of Ald. Freddrenna M. Lyle (6th), who is the incumbent running for reelection.
As of early Wednesday, Roderick Sawyer, the son of former Chicago Mayor and Ald. Eugene Sawyer, appeared to have forced Lyle into a runoff.
Page was released on an individual recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in Misdemeanor Court (Br. 35) on March 28, police said.
