Three men were killed and two others wounded in a drug-related shooting late Thursday at a home in Gary, Ind., police said. A four-year-old girl was found in the house unharmed.
Police discovered the bodies of three men late Thursday who had been shot in the living room of a house at 3829 Washington Street in Gary, Ind., Sergeant Tom Pawlak said. Officers also found a 4-year-old girl on a couch next to one of the victims.
The girl was unharmed and is believed to be the daughter of one of the men shot, Pawlak said. She was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
Police initially responded about 10:40 p.m. to a 911 call from a man who was shot at the Washington Street address but had escaped to a friends house two blocks away in the 3800 block of Adams Street, Pawlak said.
Another man who was apparently shot in the attack showed up at an area hospital some time later and both he and the man who called police were taken to Methodist Hospital in Gary, Ind., according to the sergeant. Both were listed in “stable” condition and are expected to live.
The Lake County coroner’s office confirmed there had been deaths at the Washington Street address, but also declined to provide a specific number of people killed.
Officers found marijuana and cash in the house and the shooting is believed to have been drug related, Pawlak said.
No one was in custody early Friday, according to Pawlak, who said police have not determined whether the shooting was carried out by one person or multiple gunmen.
Investigators remained on the scene early Friday.
