Off-duty detective fires at robbery suspects outside NW Side Jewel

Updated: August 6, 2014 11:19PM

An off-duty Chicago Police detective shot at two males who allegedly tried to steal from a Jewel store Wednesday night in the Norwood Park neighborhood.

The detective was shopping at the Jewel at 7342 W. Foster Ave. about 7:10 p.m. when store employees told her there was a theft in progress and pointed out the robbers, police said.

The detective approached them in the parking lot. They had gotten into a vehicle they had loaded with the stolen merchandise, police said. When the driver accelerated the vehicle at the officer, she shot at them in “fear of her life,” police said. No one was injured.

The suspects were arrested, police said.
