Man dies after being stabbed by woman on Northwest Side

A man died early Thursday after being stabbed by a woman earlier this week in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Danny Melendez, 38, allegedly was stabbed in the thigh about 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday by a 31-year-old woman after they got into a fight in the 2300 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Melendez, of the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road, was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead there at 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The woman who allegedly stabbed Melendez was taken into custody at the scene on Tuesday, Sullivan said.

No charges had been filed against her as of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, as Area North detectives investigate.
