Woman sexually assaulted in North Side apartment laundry room

A woman was sexually assaulted in an apartment’s laundry room in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood on Wednesday evening, police said.

The 24-year-old woman was in the basement laundry room of a building in the 1200 block of West North Shore Avenue about 7:00 p.m. when an unidentified male approached her from behind and covered her eyes, according to a community alert issued by Chicago Police early Thursday.

The alleged attacker said he had a gun and demanded the woman’s money, taking her keys and cell phone from her pocket, the alert said.

When the woman tried to fight him off, he struck her head against a support beam in the room and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the building, police said.

The attacker was described as a black male standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-2, wearing tan boots, blue jeans and a black jacket with black and white wrist cuffs. Police did not have an estimate of his age.

Anyone with information should call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
