Driver, passenger face drug charges after car fatally hits woman in Glenview

An 18-year-old from unincorporated Cook County near Des Plaines has been charged with aggravated DUI causing death in the death of a 65-year-old pedestrian who died ater being struck by a car in the 300 block of Greenwood Road in Glenview the morning of Jan. 17.
Dustin Aranda was charged Thursdayin the death of Janina Kasperek, 65, who was walking in the 300 block of Greenwood Road in Glenview when she was hit by a beige 2002 Chevrolet around 11:20 a.m. Jan. 17.
Kasperek, of Niles, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead.
Aranda tested positive for marijuana and benzodiazepine, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office, tand also has been charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
Aranda and his passenger, Jocelyn Maldonado Verdin, 18, of Niles, remained at the scene after the crash.
Verdin also was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, according to the sheriff’s office, which said deputies found 27 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
Aranda and Verdin appeared in court Friday in Skokie, where bail for Aranda was set at $270,000 and Verdin was freed on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond with electronic monitoring.
