A Wheaton delivery man had cannabis in his system when he struck and killed an elderly woman Thursday on the Southwest Side, Cook County prosecutors said Saturday.

Authorities said James Rudzinski, 61, admitted he smoked marijuana the night before his delivery truck hit an 82-year-old pedestrian, Bronislawa Zajac, as she crossed the street in the 6300 block of South Narragansett Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Rudzinski was turning left at an intersection and told the police he did not see her.

A urine test revealed he had cannabis in his system, court records show.

Rudzinski was ordered held Saturday on $150,000 bail. He’s charged with aggravated DUI.
