A Chicago man with a long criminal record will serve a 19-year prison sentence for the armed robbery of an Elmhurst store last year that netted him more 700 cartons of cigarettes worth about $40,000.

A DuPage County judge sentenced 42-year-old Charles Watkins on Friday.

Watkins has been to prison six times before.

Prosecutors say a gun-wielding Watkins and an accomplice entered the store wearing uniforms and telling a clerk they were cigarette inspectors. After the clerk led them to a storage room, prosecutors said they handcuffed him and took off but were arrested after a short chase.

Watkins entered a guilty plea. The case against his alleged accomplice is pending.
