Police investigate claim of unwanted sex act at Evanston firehouse

Evanston Police were investigating a 26-year-old woman’s claim that she was the victim of an unwanted sexual act early Saturday by an on-duty firefighter at a city fire station.

Police were conducting a criminal investigation after consulting the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, said Cmdr. Jay Parrott, the department’s public information officer.

He said the victim met the firefighter through a dating website.

The name of the firefighter, who has been placed on paid administrative leave, was not released pending the investigation, Parrott said.

Fire Chief Greg Klaiber declined to comment.

The alleged incident took place about 1 a.m. Saturday while other firefighters slept at Fire Station 1, 1332 Emerson St.

Department rules prohibit bringing private visitors to stations after 8 p.m. without supervision.
