1 dead, 9 wounded in weekend violence across Chicago

One person has been killed and nine others wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago since Friday afternoon.

A 39-year-old man was shot in the back of the head around 6:20 p.m. Saturday on the sidewalk in the 600 block of West 89th Street in Auburn Gresham on the South Side.

His killer walked up with a group and opened fire, according to the police, who did not release the dead man’s name pending the notification of his family.

Here’s a rundown of the other shootings, according to the Chicago Police Department:

◆ A 23-year-old man was shot around 9:30 Saturday night in the backside in the 400 block of East 73rd Street in Park Manor on the South Side and taken to Stroger Hospita,

◆ A 19-year-old man was shot in a leg around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the 13100 block of South Langley Avenue on the city’s South Side and hospitalized in good condition.

◆ In Woodlawn at about the same time, a 23-year-old man was shot in the head in the 800 block of East 63rd Street and taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospitals.

◆ A 20-year-old man was shot in both legs in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue at 4:18 p.m. and taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

◆ An 18-year-old woman was shot in a leg around 3:50 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 21st Place taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.

◆ A 17-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded, and a stray bullet injured a 53-year-old relative on the Northwest Side in Belmont Cragin, The teenager was outside in the 2100 block of North Mulligan Avenue around 3:10 a.m. when someone approached and started shooting, according to the police, who said the teen was shot in the lower back and taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. A bullet went through the window and hit the relative in a leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

◆ Shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in West Englewood on the South Side after they exchanged words about gang affiliation in the 6600 block of South Bell Avenue, according to the police. The teen was shot in the buttocks and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm in the shooting.

◆ A 17-year-old boy was shot in a knee while riding a bike in Uptown in the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue around 7:15 p.m. Friday. The shooter got out of a car and opened fire. The victim was taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
