A convicted sex offender was ordered held Saturday on $250,000 bail, accused of rubbing up against a woman on a crowded CTA Brown Line L train near the Sedgwick station on Tuesday.
Angel Echevarria, 37, of the 2600 block of North Harding Avenue, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and failing to register as a sex offender. He’d been convicted of sexually abusing a minor under 13.
Echerria grabbed the 25-year-old woman’s hand as she held onto a handrail, then straddled her and “violently rubbed” his groin on her buttocks, prosecutors said Saturday.
Someone who saw what was happening pulled the woman away from Echevarria, who got off at Sedgwick, according to prosecutors. They said the woman got off the train at the Merchandise Mart and alerted CTA employees.
The woman noticed Echevarria two days later at the Fullerton Avenue station and again alerted CTA workers, who held the man for the police, prosecutors said.
