A 55-year-old Arkansas man was shot to death early Thursday when a trip in an acquaintance’s car went horribly awry.
Robert Franklin, of Blytheville, Ark., was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m. after his friend rushed him to Stroger Hospital with four gunshot wounds to the back, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The friend told police that they got lost while driving around early Thursday. When they stopped to ask for directions, a man climbed into their car, pulled out a gun and robbed them, police said.
When the robber left the car, Franklin, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot four times, police said.
The driver of the gray 2002 Chevrolet Impala drove him to Stroger, where he died from his wounds, authorities said.
Police said they don’t know where the shooting occurreed because the driver told them he was lost at the time.
