Cops search for man who sexually assaulted 2 women, girl on S. Side

Updated: October 10, 2013 2:47AM

Police continued to search early Thursday for a man who they think sexually assaulted two women early Wednesday at their home in the Washington Heights neighborhood and then attacked a 14-year-old girl walking to a nearby bus stop.

On Wednesday, investigators were questioning a “person of interest” but have since decided that man was not behind the attacks, which took place blocks apart on the South Side.

The sexual assaults happened during a three-and-a-half hour window beginning about 3 a.m. Wednesday. A man sneaked in through an open window and attacked a 43-year-old woman and a 22-year-old while they slept in their home in the 10300 block of South Emerald Avenue, police said.

After that attack, police think the same man tried to sexually assault an 11-year-old girl in her bedroom in the 10100 block of South Green Street. The girl’s father told officers he heard a dog barking and then heard his daughter scream. He ran to his daughter’s room and saw a man peeking out of her closet, police said. The suspect then jumped out of the same window he had apparently crawled in through and ran down the block.

That’s where the man saw the 14-year-old girl walking to a bus stop about 6:40 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Peoria to catch a ride to school, police said. As he exited an alley, he approached the girl from behind, put a knife to her throat and coerced her to a nearby yard where he sexually assaulted, police said.

All three victims were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital. The 11-year-old girl was not injured.
