A 46-year-old South Side man has been charged with robbing several people at gunpoint while claiming to be a police officer, authorities said.

James Blackman, of the 6400 block of South Morgan, is accused of robbing at least four people on the South Side throughout September, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Office of News Affairs.

He was charged with three counts of armed robbery with a firearm; one count of aggravated robbery; five counts of impersonating a police officer, and one count of aggravated kidnapping, police said.

He is thought to be connected to at least four robberies in which the suspect identified himself as “Officer Franklin” and robbed people at gunpoint, police have said. The robberies occurred in the 7000 block of South Justine; the 8000 block of South Oakley; the 7700 block of South Colfax, and the 8100 block of South Colfax.

Blackman was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
