Man charged in shooting of Northwest Side student

An 18-year-old man was charged in the Wednesday shooting of a student across the street from a high school on the Northwest Side.
Kevin Murchison, of the 4700 block of South Greenwood Avenue, was charged with:
- Aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm
- Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon
- Unlwaful use of a weapon near a school or park
- Causing a child to be endangered
- Attempted armed robbery
The shooting happened about 2:25 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Kimball Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said. It was just across the street from Roosevelt High School at 3436 W. Wilson Ave.
A 15-year-old boy suffered a minor gunshot wound to the leg and was taken in good condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, O’Brien said.
A statement from Ald. Deborah Mell’s office said: “Thank you to the CPD for apprehending a shooter outside Roosevelt High School in Albany Park this afternoon. One student was shot in the leg; he’s in good condition.”
Murchison is scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
