Kustok indicted in murder of his wife

The father of Comcast SportsNet reporter Sarah Kustok and former Northwestern quarterback Zak Kustok was indicted in the murder of his wife.

Orland Park businessman Allan Kustok was charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 29 shooting death of his wife, Anita, in their Orland Park home.

The indictment was returned Friday and announced Monday during a hearing before Circuit Judge Raymond L. Jagielski.

Kustok, 59, is accused of shooting his wife as she lay in their bed that morning. He insists she shot herself.

Kustok's next court date is Nov. 18.

The county's chief of corrections, sheriff's Lt. Michael Downey, said the chains on Kustok were standard procedure for traveling inmates.

The couple's son, Zak Kustok, and his wife, Nicole, attended the court hearing, along with his father's parents. Sarah Kustok, the couple's daughter, was not in the courtroom Monday.
