Man charged with fondling teen girl after luring her with popsicles, chips

A senior citizen allegedly fondled a teenage girl after luring her and her younger siblings with popsicles and chips to his South Side apartment.

Robert Johnson offered his 15-year-old neighbor a dollar after he touched her groin and she pushed him away, dropping the bag of chips he made her fetch in his bedroom last week, Cook County prosecutors said.

“When are you going to let me hit that?” Johnson, 66, allegedly asked the girl when she tried to leave in the Sept. 4th incident.

The girl was walking home with her siblings— ages 11 and 5 — when Johnson, told them he’d give them popsicles and chips if they came to his place, in the 4400 block of South Prairie, Assistant State’s Attorney Amanda Pillsbury said.

Johnson first gave the younger children popsicles.

And when the 15-year-old told him she wanted some chips, he told her that the snacks were in his bedroom, Pillsbury said.

The girl went into the room and saw the chips on the shelf.

When she reached for the bag, Johnson pounced and grabbed her from behind, Pillsbury said.

As the girl exited the room, Johnson allegedly offered her the dollar and grabbed her arm.

The girl told her siblings it was time to leave and walked to the door, where Johnson fondled the girl’s breasts before all three children ran home, Pillsbury said.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Johnson held in lieu of $100,000 bail Wednesday for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
