An elderly man convicted of fondling a girl at a North Side Target and accused of fondling a pair of sisters at church was arrested again this week for inappropriately touching another girl at an Asian grocery store in Uptown, Cook County prosecutors said.
Loreto Gaspar, who is currently on probation for the 2010 Target incident, improperly touched an 8-year-old girl over her clothes while her mother was busy shopping at the Viet Hoa Plaza on Aug. 8, Assistant State’s Attorney John Dillon said.
A store employee allegedly saw the 71-year-old Gaspar touch the girl twice at the store, 1051 West Argyle.
The employee was able record Gaspar on a cellphone the third time he reached over to the girl and molested her, Dillon said.
When the girl’s mother turned around and saw Gaspar standing there, her daughter told her what happened.
Gaspar, who met the girl’s mother at the store once before, immediately fled. But the girl, her mother and the store employee later identified Gaspar, Dillon said.
A few days later, Gaspar also allegedly fondled two sisters — ages 6 and 9 — at church. He had befriended the girls and their mother before the Aug. 21 attack at the house of worship, Dillon said.
Gaspar was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for that incident. He was ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bail and has been at Cook County Jail ever since.
On Friday, a visibly irritated Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Gaspar held in lieu of $300,000 cash bail for the alleged grocery store attack.
The judge sternly warned Gaspar that if he posted bond, he cannot have any contact with minors and would be placed on electronic monitoring.
Last year, Gaspar was sentenced to two months probation after pleading guilty to aggravated battery in a public place for his Target-related arrest.
Just like he did last month, Gaspar, of the 1700 block of West Balmoral, had befriended the mother of his then-9-year-old victim before attacking the child, prosecutors said.
Once inside the Target, in the 2100 block of West Peterson, Gaspar spoke with the victim and her mother in the food court.
When the mother and her children went on to shop, Gaspar approached the girl and fondled her genitals over her clothes, police said.
