Four men were killed and at least 13 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night, according to Chicago Police.
A 25-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. He was shot in the chest and back during an argument about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of South Morgan, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died, Greer said.
At 7:41 a.m. Sunday, a 56-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in his home in the 12200 block of South Aberdeen in the West Pullman neighborhood on the South Side. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but would not release identification pending family notification. The man previously had been shot in the abdomen at 4:40 a.m. last Monday at his home, Chicago Police said. Both shootings were thought to be related to narcotics, said Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli, a department spokesman.
A 21-year-old man was shot to death and two men were injured in a Bridgeport apartment about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, police said. Daniel Ortiz, of Monee, was shot in the chest and died at the scene, authorities said. A 22-year-old man was shot in the head and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said. The third man, who’s 25, was found in a vehicle that crashed in the 4300 block of South Wentworth a short time later, police said. He was shot in the head and leg.
On Saturday morning, a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times and died in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said. He was found at 11:19 a.m. in a gangway at the rear of a building in the 11700 block of South Hale, police said.
In the most recent nonfatal incident, two men were shot early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. They were shot during an argument with a person in a car in the 4200 block of West Congress Parkway about 12:25 a.m., police said. The men, ages 20 and 22, were both shot in the legs and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
A 27-year-old man was wounded in the foot about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of West Washington in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. He made his own way to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, police said.
About 3:05 a.m. Sunday in the West Englewood neighborhood, a 23-year-old man was in the 6700 block of South Marshfield. He started arguing with a man who took out a gun and shot him, police said. The man was shot in the hip and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was shot about 6 p.m. Saturday in the Uptown neighborhood. The boy was in the 1000 block of West Wilson when he was shot in the head about 6:10 p.m., authorities said. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. A second person, who was possibly wounded in the same shooting, later walked into a North Side hospital with a gunshot wound to his wrist, police said.
About 1:20 p.m., a man was shot in the head in the 1200 block of North Orleans, police said. He was hospitalized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The wounded man, thought to be his 20s, was in critical condition, according to dispatch reports.
An 18-year-old man was shot by a relative at 8:56 a.m. in the 500 block of West 81st Street, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
A 31-year-old man was shot on the West Side about 4:13 a.m. Saturday while he was standing on the sidewalk in the 5800 block of West Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. He was shot in the chest and right arm by a shooter passing by in a light-colored SUV, police said. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park in critical condition before being transferred to Stroger hospital, police said.
About 20 minutes earlier on the North Side, a woman was shot during an armed robbery in the Albany Park neighborhood about 3:50 a.m. Saturday, police said. The woman was taken from the scene of the crime, in the 4500 block of North Christiana, to Swedish Covenant Hospital, police said. A suspect was later taken into custody in the 5400 block of North Spaulding after exchanging gunfire with officers, police said. Another suspect, also armed, was taken into custody in the 5300 block of North Kimball.
A 19-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Pilsen neighborhood about 3:20 a.m. Saturday, police said. The man was standing on a corner in the 1000 block of West 20th Place when someone in a light-color SUV shot him in the left leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.
In addition to these shootings, an alleged burglar was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer Saturday night in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, police said. The officer was walking in an alley in the 1900 block of North Lincoln Avenue about 11:30 p.m. when he saw a man allegedly trying to break into an apartment, police said. The officer shot the man after he “threatened the officer’s life” and pulled a “shiny object” out of his waistband as he ran at the officer, police said.
The man, thought to be in his 20s, was dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. The officer was not hurt, police said.
Area detectives are investigating the shootings.
