A Colorado man who met a Chicago teenager on an online gaming site and allegedly had sex with her at a Loop hotel last year was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail Thursday.
Christopher Plouffe’s contact with the then 15-year-old girl in 2011 progressed from chatting about the game to video chatting in which Plouffe would encourage the minor to perform sex acts on herself, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Heather Kent said.
Plouffe would also masturbate on camera for the victim, Kent said. At the time Plouffe, now 31, allegedly acknowledged his age and the girl told him she was 15.
On Feb. 10, 2012, Plouffe drove from Alabama — where he lived at the time — to Chicago to meet the girl, Kent said.
The two met at a cafe near the girl’s house and kissed, Kent said.
On the next two days, the pair had sex at the Silversmith Hotel & Suites, 10 S. Wabash, Kent said. Plouffe had been staying at the hotel and both were captured on video there, according to prosecutors.
Two days later — on Valentine’s Day — the girl told her family what had happened and they called police.
That following May, Plouffe sent an email to the girl’s relatives apologizing for his actions, Kent said.
Plouffe, whose DNA was allegedly found on the girl’s underwear, was arrested in Colorado earlier this month.
Plouffe has a misdemeanor conviction for making a false police report in Arizona.
He was also convicted of felony possession of stolen property, misdemeanor “malicious mischief” and misdemeanor reckless endangerment in the state of Washington, Kent said.
