A man who talked about opening an account at a Portage Park neighborhood bank returned later to rob it, authorities said.
The man entered Plaza Bank, 5601 W. Belmont Ave., about 3:30 p.m. Monday and spoke to employees about opening an account, according to police and the FBI.
The man then left the bank, came back and handed a note to a teller demanding money, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. He then ran away westbound on Belmont with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The robber is described as a black man about 35, 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, according to the FBI. He was wearing jeans, a hat and a short-sleeved shirt.
