An off-duty Chicago Police sergeant died in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in the southwest suburbs.
Jean-Pierre Borja, 44, who lived on the Northwest Side, was merging onto northbound La Grange Road from Archer Avenue near Willow Springs about 6:50 p.m., a suburban police source said.
As he merged, he suffered an apparent heart attack, Chicago Police said. He was able to move out of traffic and slow down his motorcycle before laying the bike on its side to avoid injuring others, police said.
Borja, who had been with the department for 21 years, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy Monday found Borja died of multiple injuries from the motorcycle crash and ruled his death an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
