Cook County Jail officer charged with shooting driver after dispute

A Cook County Jail correctional officer was charged with fatally shooting a motorist Thursday near the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.
The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. Thursday at Indianapolis Boulevard and Casino Center Drive, Hammond Police said.
Edgar Singleton Jr. allegedly fired his weapon after a dispute with a fellow motorist, Montrell Moss, 23, of East Chicago, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Moss was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m. at St. Margaret Mercy in Hammond, Ind., according to officials.
Singleton was charged with murder, said the Cook County sheriff’s office, which added it’s terminating his employment.
Hammond Police were investigating.
