Woman critically injured, man hurt in gang-related South Shore shooting

A 23-year-old woman was in critical condition after a gang-related shooting Thursday night in the South Shore neighborhood.

A 28-year-old man also was shot, police said.

They were outside about 11 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Paxton when two gunmen approached on foot and opened fire, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

A bullet struck the woman in the chest, critically wounding her, police said. The man was shot in the shoulder. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.

No one was in custody. Area Central detectives were investigating.
