Armed robbers hit Rolling Meadows cell phone shop

ROLLING MEADOWS — Two armed men entered a Sprint store in Rolling Meadows Thursday evening and pointed a gun toward a female customer and five sales associates while they loaded cell phones into a bag.

The robbery occurred about 6:35 p.m. at 1100 W. Golf Road, at the intersection with Algonquin Road. The offenders entered the store and herded the six victims into a back room.

Customer Rebeca Campos, 22, said the handgun came within two feet of her face.

“He kept pointing the gun at people and putting the gun against people,” Campos said.

The gunman attempted to conceal his face with a blue and white polo shirt while he watched over the victims, who’d been forced into a back room, she said.

Meanwhile, his accomplice, loaded numerous phones into a fabric bag they’d brought into the store.

“They just keep saying, Nobody is going to get hurt. It’s nothing personal,” said Campos, who’d gone to the store to inquire about having her phone repaired.

Campos said the robbers did not appear to be looking for money.

“Clearly, they just wanted to go for the phones. They grabbed all the phones they could, threw them into a bag and that was it,” said Campos, who estimated the robbery took only a minute.

“Then they bolted out of there.”

The robbers left through a rear emergency door, and a witness from another business saw them entering a BMW automobile.

Campos’ said the robbers took her phone during the robbery, but they dropped it inside the store before fleeing.
