Two men have been charged with stealing bats autographed by Alfonso Soriano and Ernie Banks from Wrigley Field during a double-header Tuesday, authorities said.
Johnathan Koziol, 29, and Robert Hack, 28, were each charged with one count of felony retail theft, police said. Hack also was charged with two counts of aggravated battery. Both men were being held on $50,000 bail.
They were detained in the park by Cubs security and arrested before they could leave the park, Cubs spokesman Julian Green said.
“We were very happy with the attentiveness of our security personnel and the response by Chicago police officers to quickly resolve the situation which could have resulted in a very violent incident given the type of items which were taken,” Green said in a statement.
Koziol and Hack were scheduled to appear in court next on Aug. 6.
