A 16-year-old boy was shot after a group of males tried to take his bicycle Tuesday night in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The teenager was riding his bike in the 1700 block of West 71st Street about 7:55 p.m. when he was approached by the group, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
They told him to give up his bike, and when he tried to ride away, one of them brandished a gun and fired shots at him, striking him in the right thigh, Zala said.
The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Area South detectives were investigating.
