Man killed in South Chicago drive-by shooting

An 18-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood Tuesday evening.

He was standing on the corner in the 8000 block of South Chappel when someone in a dark-color car opened fire about 7:45 p.m., police said.

He was shot in the chest and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

His name was not released pending notifications of relatives.

Authorities could not provide a motive for the attack as of Tuesday night, police said.

Area South detectives were investigating, but no one was in custody.
