Elgin man said he got fake ID from China company: police

Updated: July 21, 2013 2:27PM

A young Elgin man who allegedly tried to enter the Grand Victoria Casino with a fake Illinois driver’s license last weekend said he had bought it online from a company in China, police in the northwest suburb said.

Matthew J. Koehring, 20, reportedly told officers that he and three friends had submitted their names, birth dates and addresses plus $100 each to the Chinese company.

He said the company then had shipped each of them two fake driver’s licenses, showing fake birth dates putting them over age 21, according to police.

Koehring was charged with possession of a fraudulent ID card, which is a Class 4 felony, and consumption of liquor by a minor, which is a Class A misdemeanor.
