Updated: May 19, 2013 3:52PM

Skokie Police Chief Tony Scarpelli said Sunday police continue searching for the gunman responsible for the Friday night just shooting outside Old Orchard mall.

Scarpelli said officers are continuing to follow all investigative leads in the case.

A young man was wounded in a shooting about 9:45 p.m. near the 4800 block of Golf Road, a release from police said.

When officers got to the scene they found a male juvenile near the mall, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was being treated.

Scarpelli said the victim underwent surgery Saturday and as far as he knew the victim remains in fair condition.

A carnival was being held at the mall, near the location of the shooting, this weekend, but it is unclear whether the victim was attending the carnival.

Police ask that if anyone has any information or knowledge regarding the shooting, to contact the Skokie Police Department at (847) 982-5900.~.
