Police: Arlington Heights man under evaluation after barricade, suicide threats

An Arlington Heights man was in custody after barricading himself in his condo with his mother Saturday, firing a gun and threatening to kill himself, police said.

The mother convinced the son to give her the gun, police said, and left the condo in the 100 block of West Wing Street. But the police waited before entering and set up a perimeter of officers around downtown Arlington Heights because it wasn’t clear whether the man had other weapons.

After repeated requests for the man to come out, police forced entry and took him into custody unharmed.

The man was taken to Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights for evaluation.
