Woman fights off purse snatcher on NW Side, lands in hospital

Police are searching for a suspect who pushed a woman to the ground and struck her several times while attempting to steal her purse Thursday night in the North Side Irving Park neighborhood.

A 60-year-old woman was walking in the 4100 block of West Eddy Street at 11:45 p.m. when a male shoved her from behind and attempted to take her purse, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

The male struck her several times before fleeing without the victim’s purse, Estrada said.

The woman was taken in “stable” condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with bruises to the left side of her face, Estrada said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

Area North detectives are investigating.
