A 10-year-old bystander was shot Wednesday night after gunfire erupted during an argument between two men in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago Police said.

The boy was shot in the buttocks about 7:50 p.m. in the 900 block of North Waller, police said.

Two men were arguing nearby and one pulled out a handgun and started shooting, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. The boy did not appear to have been the intended target, he said.

Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said the boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old man was shot in his leg at 6:41 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of South Carpenter and walked into University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, police said. A source said the man was a known gang member.

Nobody was in custody for either shooting.
