Three teenage girls were charged with armed robbery for allegedly talking their way into a Palatine apartment, hitting a 12-year-old boy with a ketchup bottle and stealing cash and cellphones.
The boy told police he was watching TV last Wednesday when one of the girls knocked on his patio door in the 400 block of East Osage Lane in Palatine and asked for his sister. When he said she wasn’t home, the girl left but returned with three other girls and asked to come in to use the bathroom.
When he let them in, one of the girls hit him in the back with an empty ketchup bottle. The others went through the home, taking $50 in cash, jewelry and two cellphones, according to a news release from the Palatine Police Department.
When the boy’s sister returned home about 9 p.m., she called police. The boy was treated for cuts at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Police learned that the four suspects were former friends of the boy’s sister, the release said.
Three of the teens turned themselves in Friday and admitted to the crime, but police were seeking a fourth suspect.
Palatine residents Vanessa Mejia, 17, and Sendi Ocampo, 18, were charged with armed robbery, the release said. A 16-year-old girl was charged as a juvenile.
Bond was set at $200,000 for Mejia and Ocampo, who were scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
