Buffalo Grove man charged with child pornography

A northwest suburban man was ordered held on $50,000 bond Thursday after investigators allegedly found child pornography on computers at his home.
Michael Welstead, 50, of Buffalo Grove, was charged with one count each of aggravated child pornography for having still images on a computer; aggravated child pornography for having video images on a computer;, and child pornography, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Investigators were searching for people downloading child porn and identified Welstead as a suspect, a statement from prosecutors said. Police took a laptop, two computers and a hard drive from Welstead’s home and found numerous files of children engaging in sex acts.
Buffalo Grove Police arrested Welstead on Wednesday, and Judge Jill Cerone-Marisie ordered him held on $50,000 bond Thursday, according to prosecutors. He will be back in court May 23 in Rolling Meadows.
