Frankfort doctor pleads not guilty to sex-abuse charges

A Frankfort doctor accused of groping several women during office visits pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday in Will County court.
Dr. Kishor Jain, 59, faces an indictment on 10 counts of criminal sexual abuse; five counts of battery, and one count of criminal sexual assault.
Jain also faces five lawsuits filed by women who claim he fondled them during office visits at Hedges Clinic, 222 Colorado Ave., in Frankfort.
Jain, who no longer works for Hedges Clinic, declined to comment on the cases outside the courtroom Thursday.
As part of his bond, Jain was required to surrender his passport. His attorney, Gerald Kielian, said he already had given it to the Frankfort Police Department.
In August 2011, Jessica Schubbe went to police after she allegedly was fondled by Jain during an office visit for her child. Her case had been under investigation since then.
Schubbe filed a lawsuit against Jain in January, claiming he grabbed her breasts with both hands during an August 2011 office visit for her child.
Media coverage of Schubbe’s lawsuit gave other women the courage to contact Frankfort Police, which led to the criminal charges, police said.
In March, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation suspended Jain’s medical license, pending the outcome of his criminal case. If Jain is convicted of the charges, his license automatically will be revoked.
In 2002, Jain was acquitted of a misdemeanor battery charge by a Will County judge. The charge stemmed from claims by one of Jain’s former pediatric patients, Brenda Doyle, who told Frankfort Police that Jain touched her breasts and tried to put his hand down her pants while asking her about sex positions in December 2001 when she brought her infant in for a checkup.
At the time, the judge concluded Jain’s actions were part of a legitimate medical exam.
Jain is scheduled to appear in court on the current criminal charges May 22.
