Police are searching for a man who stole a car — with 1-year-old girl inside — from a Humboldt Park gas station Wednesday night. The girl was later found unharmed.
The baby’s mother had left her inside a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, which was running, in a gas station parking lot in the 3100 block of West Chicago about 9:25 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The man jumped in the car and drove off, Greer said.
A short time later, police found the car, which had been abandoned about half a mile away in the 600 block of North Kedzie, police said.
The baby was still inside the car, but she wasn’t injured, Greer said. Paramedics took her to Norwegian-American Hospital in good condition as a precaution.
The girl’s mother knows the suspect from the neighborhood, but no one was in custody Wednesday night as area detectives continued to investigate.
