Man found shot to death in forest preserve near Blue Island

Updated: April 17, 2013 8:56PM

A Markham man was found shot to death Tuesday in a Cook County forest preserve near south suburban Blue Island.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said 38-year-old Eddie Bell’s body was found decomposed in a forested area near 13800 Thornton Road. Bell, of the 16200 block of Marshfield Avenue in Markham, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 p.m.

The Calumet Woods is located just east of that area.

The man’s body had been in the forest preserve “for at least a couple of weeks,” said Cook County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Sophia Ansari.

An autopsy Wednesday found Bell died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Sheriff’s police and the Harvey police are conducting a joint investigation in the case, though officials could not immediately say why Harvey police are involved.
